Jean Marie Le Pen in Athens...
Every May Day for the last twenty and more years, the French National Front of Jean Marie Le Pen organizes a majestic parade-rally to honour the memory of Joan D' Arc, the national heroine of France, and celebrate the Labour Day. Supporters of the National Front from every corner of France and delegations of nationalist parties from all over Europe take part in this event at the centre of Paris.
The Greek flag waved between the French ones in front of the French symbol of Liberty, Joan D' Arc.
This year the May Day rally of the National Front had electoral as well as historical and political significance, because of the French presidential elections. The circumstances made this event the final and greatest electoral rally of Le Pen, shortly before the contest for the French presidency. For this reason the establishment of Chirac and Jospin, had been attempting in vain for weeks to do anything possible to obstruct the rally. From its foundation the Hellenic Front is true to its rendezvous every May Day at Place d' Opera, at the centre of Paris. A Hellenic Front delegation, despite any obstacles, is taking part actively in these truly majestic rallies of the French nationalists. Members of the Hellenic Front are every year at the side of the French and other European nationalists, fighting jointly the difficult struggle for the just cause of the European Idea.

This May Day, things were different. The Hellenic Front delegation was led by its president Makis Voridis, after an official invitation of Le Pen himself. Knowing our struggle for the coming Greek local elections, the French co-fighters had a pleasant surprise in store for us. The organizers of the event assigned the Greek delegation, the Hellenic Front delegation, at the head of all the European delegations. Amidst a huge in size and enthusiasm parade of more than 100.000 demonstrators, the Hellenic Front delegation was leading the European delegations from Spain, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Serbia and every corner of Europe. This incident reflects credit not only on the Hellenic Front president and members who were there, but on the entire Hellenic nation. In an event of world radiance and interest, we raised and waved proudly the Greek flag, amidst a multitude of flags from France and all over Europe. During the parade, all the international news agencies showed great interest for the Hellenic Front delegation, the only Greek presence. However what touched us more was the warm welcome of the ordinary French supporters of Le Pen. Many applauded our delegation, while others photographed themselves with the Greek flag, spoke of Greece in flattering terms and thanked us warmly for our presence in their difficult electoral campaign. The event ended in a live speech of the National Front president Le Pen, who roused once again the attendees. After the end of the event, Le Pen wined and dined personally at his house Voridis and made the well-known now public support statement for the Hellenic Front electoral struggle for the local elections.
